Few of us camped in Whitecourt at the campsite by boat launch this weekend. Have been up,the Athabasca a couple times but have never really ventured up the McLeod. So Saturday and today we headed upstream , went about 40 ish Kms. Have heard normally it's a very shallow wide river but right now , Lots of water, met a few boats up there. Quite a few residences and a couple campsites for a while but as we got up further got less evidence of people. Caught a few fish.
Cool river, we took the little boats this weekend but could easily have run anything up there now. Gonna try it again later in the year , bet it's fun when it skinnys down.

Ya normally boat traffic is quite limited on the Mcleod so get on it while you can, usually by August it gets so shallow you can barely float a canoe down it, great walleye and sauger fishing if you know where to go, also some big jack in there, watch how many you eat if your keeping fish from there as there is mercury present. I have floated from peers to whitecourt a couple times, definitely a nice river for recreation

You bet , it was fun , if we do I think we'll go a bit later , the water was a bit to high for the little boats. Cool river, fishing was good . Be interesting this year with way more snow, see how the levels change.

We went from whitecourt to Fort Assiniboine last summer when the water was crazy high, the next day they shut the launch do to the high water. It was fun I am pretty sure I drove my boat down quad trails lol. The rivers should get high and stay high for awhile this spring. Guess it depends on how fast it warms up and how much rain comes with it. I want to make it up around your neck of the woods to!

Hope you come up , we have a great group , always somebody going somewhere. the upper wapiti and the Kakwa and the Narroway and Simonette are rivers where you'll really enjoy your new extreme. Lots of skinnys and big rocks and little slide chutes, you'll do a lot of banging and bumping but that's where that boat shines. My son in law just bought my buddies extreme and he bought a new one, another guy in our group just bought a new Piranha and 3 of us have Bandits, couple other extremes, tons of fun. We've done the Little Smokey form Watino up a ways, done the Sikanni , the Toad , the Racing and the Tuchodi up the Alaska highway, fun rivers. Another trip we went up the Parsnip from Bear Lake by Prince George then up to Arctic Lake for an overnighter. So many nice rivers to bang around in with these light tough little boats. The Smoky and Peace are beautiful rivers but can get kinda painful if you have any of the sport jets with any kind of a load, but certainly doable. We'd have to for sure take you to the Rat Shack , it's a really cool set up.

I want to try the parsnip! Seen a few videos and it looks awesome! But I can’t find any info on where to launch. Can’t wait to get my extreme out! Keep in touch this summer!

We went into the forestry roads at Bear Lake on the pine pass road . Quite a ways in to where we launched , and we got lost and had to backtrack a bunch , pretty confusing. We just launched under a bridge , you could see it has been used but not much. We also had our big boats so it was a bit more of a challenge , with the smaller boats would be way easier , also have been told there are places to put in that are less gravel to have to deal with. Parsnip is fun, lots of really sharp corners , like a slalom course.
