See that ortovox has a new 3 antenna digital beacon out and looks pretty cool with nice features, anyone seen this or heard anything about it, might pick one up as I dont like my bca traker for ease of use.

Have not seen this one, I have the pieps with the 3 antenna digital one, it is very user friendly, thank goodness have not had to use it. They also make a probe that works to lock on the pieps becon to stop it from transmitting if you have multiple burials..bad thing is it only works on the pieps.

I have the BCA tracker and I found out during my avy course that if you dont know how to use it properly it's almost useless, so I was looking for the more user friendly ones like the peips or barryvox then I saw this, with the compass type screen it looks super user friendly. In an emergency the last thing I want is to read leds and beeps, I want something that bascially points and says run that way dummy and dig!

I don't think they are brand specific, cuz my S1 can do ignore on any brand(does not shut it off).Much easier to use than the older ones.

What kind of problems were you finding with the Tracker? In my experience as long as you stay away from the 'SP' button it's pretty user friendly, but interested to hear others' experiences.

Lococoin, thanks for the link to the Ortovox 3 review. Interested to see where this technology leads with multiple transmitting beacons.

I just picked up a tracker 2 and so far pretty happy with it. My two biggest complaints with the original tracker were its size and somewhat laggy distance and direction readout. Both corrected with the new beacon. My initial experience is that its range is a little less than the Pulse and the Pieps DSP but otherwise pretty happy with it.

Old thread, but I thought I would chime in with my thoughts on the 3+. I have one and really like it. It's comfortable to wear, and very easy to operate. Doing a range check, I did find that it's receiving range is slightly smaller than some other transceivers, but I have gotten readings at over 40m before, but generally in the 30-35m range. While doing my AST1 last year, we did a multiple burial scenario with 5 buried 'victims'. I found similiar results to the review posted above, that the distance does jump a little, but in my findings it wasn't as bad as the reviewer found. It picked up multiple signals with no problem and took me to the closest one. Only problem I found in the multiple burial scenario was some issues with people's transceivers flipping back over to transmit mode. We were down to 1 or 2 victims left to find, so less people were moving around, and because of them standing still for long enough, their transceivers automatically flipped back to transmit mode, confusing the remaining searchers.
All in all, I think it's a good transceiver, and have thought about picking up a second one as a backup for friends to use. Though I may try out a Barryvox.

Does anybody know what would cause a EE code when switching to search mode? The group I was riding with last weekend did a practice test with 9 riders, the one guy hid his beacon while the rest of us where playing around. When we all stopped he said go find it, when I switched by beacon to search the code popped up. I turned my beacon off, and tried it again did the same thing. Once the beacon was found we reset and tried it again with a different beacon hidden, my worked fine this time. I did send mine out for the recall and we have done practice with it since then with no issues.
