Can anyone give me info on some good places to camp and do some quadding in the Valemount area? We are hoping to set up camp and to be able to leave from camp to do some exploring.

Thank you for the interest in our area. We have a Valemount Atving thread in the ATV BV forum section on this site. It has some pictures of some nice rides this season

I'm sure you will enjoy your vacation here. VARDA is just beginning to work on ATV education and development and will have a map and brochure ready for next season that will be full of amazing rides that are both scenic and environmentally friendly. We have received a grant to look into trails and areas where atving is enjoyable and most importantly, environmentally sustainable. Let me know when you are planning your trip and I will provide you with some good riding locations for your family and I may even be able to accompany you on a ride ! My favorite would be the Canoe Mountain Ride where the trail takes you from valley bottom to a 8600' peak with amazing views.

Depending on your camping requirements, full service or not you have a few options:

Just a few minutes south of Valemount is the Kinbasket Lake area and this area has 3 great campgrounds, Yellowjacket at 17km, Griffen at 19km, then the Horsey Creek campground at 20km and the Marina is located at 21km. Their are many places to ride down this drainage and a day of riding and great fishing can be had by hitting all of the creeks as they enter into the lake.

The Valemount Pines Golf and RV Park should be able to provide you with access to the Westridge Family riding area and full serviced sites, but I ask that you speak with the attendants regarding the ATV use. I'm certain they will be accommodating to you and should be able to provide experienced directions.

The Canoe River Campground should also provide you with ATV access to the Kinbasket Lake drainage, another great area to explore on ATV's. Again, I ask that you speak with them directly regarding ATV use in the campground.

We are just beginning to grab the reins on our ATV opportunities. I hope I have provided you with some useful information, but please feel free to contact me at any time for more info. When you get into town, stop by our office and I will be happy to draw you out some directions to some great riding.

Feel free to email or phone anytime with questions

Me and a few few friends were thinking about camping up in Climina near the cabin in August. Not sure what weekend yet....

Curtis, or anyone else: Can you tell me if the avalanche debris has been cleared up so we can drive right to the cabin area and camp?

Any advice about camping there?? Are bears or cougars; bad there? We plan on quading to goat ridge and morning glory.

Got any pics from Canoe & Clemina rides. I rode up to top once but there was lots of fog & couldn't see much at the very top,Did see that small lake over one edge. Did you ride all the way to cabin & beyond in Clemina.

Also 'tmix' - Was the avalanche debris cleared from the road? I think it was around km 15 or so....cant be ceratin though. We got the sleds through but definately you would get high-centered with a pick-up. We are hopeing to drive right to the cabin with our trucks and trailers but i remember seeing that debris on our last sled ride of the year up there (which was June.1 btw....:d )

Does anyone know (Curtis specifically) if we can use the cabin in the summer to camp out in? Or is it locked? How hard is it to get over the creek to the cabin? As i didnt really take a look at the creek June.1 to see the depth or width. We will have a couple quads with us.

Hopeing to quad to the top of goat ridge too, is this possible or is our winter trail a creek/waterfall in the summer making it un-passable?

Thanks in advance

Hey Man.

If your looking for a great quadding/camping location, clemina is not it. The creek infront of the cabin is large with steep banks. The area does not have much riding at all besides the FSR and there is a large construction project going on at the moment(kinda spoils the atmosphere) The cabins are not locked feel free, but we tend to discourage overnight use.

The trail up to Goat Ridge is unridable in the summer from what I understand and we would hope that folks stay out of our major alpine areas as we have so many other great areas to play.

If your looking for a great quadding/camping location check out some of my info in the ATV section. Kinbasket lake offers endless riding and great creek fishing right from your campsite. Check out the ATV section. Im sorry, but I tend not to look here in the summer.

Phone me anytime and I will try to get you pointed in the right direction.

Is there anywhere that we could haul our holiday trailers and utv's and camp in an open area without being at a campground? I heard that there is quite a bit of crown land along lake kinbasket.

Was there last year, not sure if it was legal or not but lots of people were camping just off the forest service road on the shore of kinbasket.

I've rode quads and my RZR up there and the riding is what I would call ''easy''. East and west canoe fsr are like 50-60 km long of logging Rd. East canoe is scenic as you are right along the lake. West side you have a tree line between you and the lake most of the way. No muskeg to speak of. Not that you could go in it anyway. You cannot leave the trail and f-up the natural area. There really isn't anything off of those two roads that will get you up into the alpine. A trip up Canoe Mt is a must. The trail up is very rough with rocks. Not sure of the exact altitude but close to 9000'. Make sure to take rain gear and an extra hoodie as the weather changes really quick. Nice area but not challenging for some riders.

The trails advertised and GPS'd by VARDA are definitely beautiful rides but not exactly the funnest rides I've had. There's other less known areas to ride, but I haven't been able to dig up a lot of info about those. I hear Mica Mountain is a must, but I do enjoy the rocky climb to the top of Canoe as well.
