Haven't heard anything. My buddy wants to go over there for a ride sometime soon, with all the low elevation he's hoping it will have some open trails.

Haven you ever been there? Have never been there ourselves, what is the area like? How far off the highway can you unload? And Google Earth shows LOTS of cabins/houses on the west side of the river, are they ATV friendly?

Can anyone tell me what type of terrain I might encounter at Koocanusa, is it similar to Brule ? Are there more aggressive areas to ride ?

Is it too dusty/dry this time of year?? Is there enough riding for an entire day on motocross bikes?

Where is the best place to stage ?

We are riding Panorama one day and either going to Koocanusa or Atlas are the next day.

We have been going there for many years. Usually it is very dusty so we bought bandanas one year to wear when we go riding down there. Mostly old logging roads around there but there are lots of trails also. Nothing very challenging for hills as I recall which makes it a nice place to go riding with a family. Some days we have gone over 100 miles exploring so pack some fuel and a big lunch if you plan a big tour.

We go to the pie shaped area south of Cranbrook that is between hwy 95 and hwy 93...west side of the lake a few kms from the new bridge by the marina. I am sure you could find some steep trails if you look but we have not found much extreme stuff around there. It is quite tame if you compare this area to the riding around the Crowsnest mountain area (say from the Atlas staging area).

Where does your friend go riding? If you go to the east of the lake then you are riding in some pretty rugged mountain terrain. That must be where your friend goes. There must be thousands of trails out there to explore...I have been going there for over 25 years and we always find something new! I wish I could afford to live down there so I could enjoy my motorized hobbies more!

Has any been out biking by Koocanusa yet this year? It's been a couple years since I've been there and we were planning a trip out there in the next week or so but we have been told a lot of it is shut down for riding now. Any truth to that?

Dorr road is shut down right now. They are going to patrol the kooc more as there seems to be lots of infractions going on. They caught a few people last weekend and they were patrolling everywhere down along on the kooc
