We went snowshoeing in the Harvey pass/ McLatchie area.
There was about 1.5 meter total snowpack. 60 to 80 cm of storm snow (soft slab) sitting on top of the late december rain crust. Lots of depth hoar on this crust especially at and below treeline and on north aspects. Lots of settling (whumping) while walking along ridge tops. Scared the ch!t out of us
a couple times, thankfully we were on low angle slopes.
Definitely a good time to stay well clear of any 30° + unsupported slopes. Also I never observed any natural avalanche activity, so you know what that means. Those big slopes are all loaded and waiting to be triggered.
Be careful out there give the snow pack some time to heal.
