Just finished wrapping mine and will be dropping off at FedEx this weekend. How long did it take for some to get the replacement from time of shipping?

Received my 3 back after a month. New ones look much better. Bluetooth registration and configuration are good.

Well, I received my new beacon on the 24th of Dec. Here is my experience:

I had purchased my Pieps DSP Sport in Nov. of 2017. I registered it right away for the 5 years warranty over the standard 2 years. When this whole "warranty" issue developed for these DSP beacons, I had put in for my claim. I could not find the proof of purchase receipt for the life of me! Anyway, they emailed me the shipping label, prepaid for FedEx to Utah, and a bill of lading for customs and also said that they would get back to me with the upgrade cost of $100 USD for a new beacon. I filled it all out and sent it off. About 2 weeks later I got an email with a FedEx tracking number from Black Diamond (Pieps North American distributor) and that's it. No request for payment or anything! Fast forward to today, and we checked the mail box and lo and behold, there is a brand new Pieps Pro BT!

Now, I am thrilled to have received a new beacon, free of charge, with the latest and greatest technology, 60 m search path, and other features, along with the Bluetooth connectivity to my phone for upgrades and settings. I think that Pieps really stepped up here. My old DSP sport was not nearly this good, and I was only expecting the Powder BT. When I had issues with my Ortovox Zoom+ and asked a very reputable avalanche tech and AST trainer, I was told the DSP Sport, hands down. I know some guys and gals do not trust Pieps anymore, however they did not have to upgrade me, and I am thankful for it.

Got mine Wednesday, the new pro is sweet. Lots of neat Bluetooth features.

I think it took just over a month, def worth it to send in for a free upgrade. this beacon has a 60 meter range as well

Only 60m?
Barryvox has 80m

interesting, I really wish there was a safety standard for these manufacturers to sell only the best tech out there.

I get theres competition for sales. But beacon range could very well ‘control’ the end users fate

on Jan 12 I got a message that my beacons have been received and that they will be in touch with me but no further contact since. I waited a while to send mine in from the time I got the shipping label as I was hoping they would return my emails in which I had asked questions pertaining to the buy out costs but never heard back. When I called them they said that they will not be replying to emails cause they are too busy. Some people who submitted bill of sales will have to pay because there is a set date of purchase but people with no bill of sale who say they just bought it will get replacements for free. I think this program is very hard to deal with due to the amount of dishonesty and not being able to prove it. The unfortunate part is some of the dishonest people will be people who have bought second or even third hand units but the people who actually paid the piper will be held accountable to pay again. Either way, as long as I get 2 new fancy up to date beacons at a very fair rate I feel that the company has done me well. Time will tell.

Still haven’t heard anything from them. Anyone else in the same boat?

I finally got an email back from Pieps today, but they are offering only the Powder BT for a $100 charge. How did you guys get the Pro BT offered for free??

Yes, how did you guys.
Receipt long gone, and to my understanding mine was not registered .

If you had a receipt or the beacon was registered and within the warranty period then free. If not $100.

If you have not heard back within 2-3 weeks call them. Squeaky wheel gets oil as always. Somewhere in this thread I posted the number. People on other end were great to deal with.

incorrect. Both of mine were registered and still within the warranty periods. Both bill of sales were provided which actually did nothing besides prove that I was the initial purchaser. To be honest you would be better to not include a bill of sale and say that it was purchased within the year and you will likely get it for free. I questioned the girl who answered the phone about the accountability that they are using for the people who say it is brand new and show no bill of sale to which she said that there was no accountability and if that’s what they say then the replacement would be free. Unfortunately for the rest of us who showed our bill of sale and could prove that the units were sold to us at full retail price and still within warranty we have to pay. I then said “so couldn’t I just start a new claim and not show my bills to get them for free?” She said if I wanted to screw the system that way then sure I could. It is not worth the frustration so I just continued with my claim and we will see what happens.

Looks like a cheap bandaid. Its not going to stop people from putting the beacon in their pockets.

It’s kind of tough to use the supplied harness when wearing a vest. I have mine teathered into the transceiver pocket of my vest. It was the best solution I could find for quick and easy access to it at all times.
