With the warm weather (0C at 4300' in Elkford), settling and consolidation will happen big time today. Yesterday afternoon, the snow was moist on the surface and our fluff has pretty much disappeared. The eastern Kootenays may be experiencing some slab releases in the coming days. Ride safe everybody.

thats crazy. Great video
That is seriously crazy.
In golden in silvermines i seen the aftermath of a slide that ran down from half way up one side of the mountiain, across the flat meadow we rode in on, and and quarter way up the side of the mountain across from it. I couldn't believe my eyes, this video is a real eye opener I think this slide tops it. Now ive seen this ill be evaluating my location at all times as to what areas could run into the area im currently in.

Apparently a slow bike riding alone near fernie was caught in a slide. S+r found him partial burial.

Also a group was lost in quartz creek for 4 days.... wtf???

People are not listening to advise.

Tick tick tick......

In them hills.
Rode Revy today lots of natural and triggered size #1slides.

Rolled over a small convex north facing hill to test, cracked two feet deep. And split 100 feet wide. Hill was only 100ft tall but it ran right to the bottom.

Rode medows and mellow trees.....

Snow last night was high density and even at high elevation it was brining down large trees.

Lots of "whomphing" in the Rolling Hills in Fernie yesterday. The 30 cm of new snow (throughout yesterday) was heavy and wet. The snow pack is definitely settling and affecting the weak layer(s). Looks like low angle trees and meadows are the safe spots for a few days.

Lots of Avy activity out there, even in the trees.

Play safe out there!

I was on the road going into Ram creek and had stopped in a safe area waiting for my sledding buddies so I could explain to them this exact spot that a avi always come down. As i was explaining the spot the avi actually came down and crossed the road. We had never had the front row seat on anything like this. By the time it crossed the road it was moving very slow and there was no noise and no dust. I have yet to figure out how to download pictures but have forwarded them to Ferniesnow so hopefully he will put them on. This spot always starts at the very top of the ridge ans slides every year.

Cool you were able to see that. We went through there on Sunday...no slide debris at all then...was wondering when it would come down.

Did you get through? It’s a bitch sometimes after it freezes.

Don’t blame you for not going through at all. It can be pretty tough getting through...we always have a spotter when we’re trying to cross the debris.
