Hi Folks! We have been teaching avalanche training for awhile now... (since 2005) ... we would love to hear what you would like to do to keep your skills FRESH! Do you practice what you have learned on your own time? with friends? do you take another AST 1 field day? ever considered other formal learning?

Avalanche Canada has come out with a few 1 day courses in the last few years that compliment the AST 1... but they just don't seem to get much interest.

Do you know about these courses?

Companion Rescue (1 day in the field) - practicing rescue techniques including signal out of range, deep burials, signal overlap, multiple burial rescue techniques

Managing Avalanche Terrain (1 day in the field) - focus is on best practice travel habits and beginning to put the snow onto terrain and make decisions depending on the avalanche problem.

as well as the longer AST 2 (4 days)- where you really dive in and look at how to manage different avalanche problems indicated in the avalanche bulletin and how to travel accordingly.

Would love to hear WHAT WOULD WORK BEST FOR YOU! Our focus is to move on from the AST 1... what's next for you???

THANKS FOR YOUR FEEDBACK!

ive been thinking about doing the ast 2 course and will probably sign up for next year. I only ride on average 10 days in the mountains each year so its hard to commit. Those 1 days courses might be a good idea for a guy like me.

I don't think a lot of people realize how much you actually do ride during the AST 2 course! I think it's something that needs to be stressed as I know a lot of guys think they will miss a weekend of actual riding to take the course and nothing is farther from the truth!
