Fernie Snowmobile Association Avalanche Awareness Days: Sunday Feb 26th. Rolling Hills cabin from 11am-2pm.

Join us for a a fundraiser celebration of our local Elk Valley backcountry resources and a family friendly introduction to avalanche safety / backcountry skills. Our goal is to raise awaresness within the snowmobile community and to showcase our comitment to safe and responsible sledding throughout the region. Avalanche professionals will be on site answering questions, providing demonstrations, fun challenges and games, as well as opportunities to teach basic backcountry skills. All day pass fees collected will be donated to CARDA, Avalanche Canada, and Fernie and District Search and Rescue. We will also be accepting donations at the trail heads, the Rolling Hills cabin, and at the fundraiser BBQ. All are welcome to attend!


  • Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association rescue dog demonstrations
  • Avalanche Canada South Rockies Field Team: Snowpit demonstration and presentation abour the new Mountain Information Network
  • Elk Valley Snow Shepherds: bringing up the portable practice transceiver basin, teaching companion rescue skills, and fun rescue challenges
  • Ascent Helicopters: will have the helicopter on site to teach us all how to safely conduct a sled sling evacuation and move around helicopters
  • Fernie Search and Rescue: demonstrating various emergency communications devices and backcountry survival skills
  • Ghostrider Motorsports: Snowbike and 2018 Arctic Cat demos
  • Fundraiser BBQ provided by Fernie Fire Place
  • And More! Including $2000 in prizing!
