UPDATE: 7:40 a.m.

It's expected Highway 1 will reopen at about 11 a.m., according to DriveBC.

UPDATE: 6:50 a.m.
No one was hurt when an avalanche rolled over the Trans-Canada Highway in southeastern British Columbia early Wednesday.
Jamieson Harbottle, the fire chief in nearby Field, said no vehicles were hit by the slide.
"There were no injuries," he said. "There was one truck that tried to drive through the debris, but there was no one involved in the avalanche."
A B.C. Transportation Ministry advisory says both directions of the highway have been closed off from Field to the boundary with Alberta.
"The road will be closed until they can do some more avalanche control," Harbottle said.
Avalanche Canada has rated the danger in the area as considerable because of recent snow storms and says more snow and wind expected in the next few days will compound the problem.

ORIGINAL: 5:55 a.m.
An avalanche has closed the Trans-Canada Highway near the B.C.-Alberta border.
The highway is closed in both directions in Yoho National Park, from Field to the border, DriveBC reports.
There is currently no estimated time of reopening.
The avalanche came down overnight. It's not known if any vehicles were caught in the slide.
No detour is available at the scene, but travellers to Alberta can take an alternative route via Highways 95 and 93. That route adds an estimated 2.5 hours of travel time.
DriveBC is expected to update the situation this morning.
