How early do guys typically start looking at conditions before they head out
Do you look the day of or a few days out from your ride
I typically start looking 3-4 days out so I can see a pattern for the area iam riding and read all the blue dots with in surrounding areas
With the big party in McBride what are the conditions ?

I check avy conditions in the areas I ride a few times a week, even if I'm not out for over a month. It's good to have a history of what type of snow has fallen, where the winds pushed it, what week it got cold and formed surface hoar, and what valleys had natural or man made slides.
You can kinda keep a constant feel for conditions, even when you're not there.

Then when you show up and 3 aspects are tracked, with one untouched, you'll know why the locals were avoiding it already

Kanedog 2015-2019, thanks for the good times S&M!
I watch conditions all year within a 200 mile radius of my normal riding area. It gives me a good feeling/attachment/knowledge of the snow conditions.
To answer your question, as soon as I know I'm going to a certain area I start watching that day even if the trip is 8 weeks away as I can get know the snow layers, avy incident reports from mountain information network, avalanche.ca and accuweather.

What does Canadian avalanche say? Did you check the site? Have you read the special bulletin blog?

It's good to get everyone looking and talking I would bet if you randomly asked people on the hill maybe 2 out 5 guys in a group only checked conditions maybe even 1 or none I gonna test our own group this weekend and see how many check or rely on others

Over all as nice as the app is, it still does not show all information. As far as MIN reports it only shows quick reports and does not show some of the other submissions. Using the website is still a much better option.

It warmed up a bunch in Revy and the roof on my house was sliding all night. I'd say be careful if you are riding in Revy this week.

Same thing in Invermere today. +2 at Panorama village, 0 at 7300' and 10+cms of new snow.

beautiful, downtown Salmon Arm, BC
Plus temps in Elkford with rain in town through the night at 4300' and heavy rain in Fernie yesterday. Roof sliding in Elkford throughout the night with temps above freezing at 4300'. Gonna be an eye opener today.

No rain around here luckily, another 5cms overnight in the village. Currently -2. Lots of mini slides along the roads

With all avy activity that's happening and special advisory going out this past weekend, why were conditions on avalanche Canada app only listed as moderate to considerable? Should there have been some kind of extreme listing at some point? Was there just not enough reports of conditions coming in to avy Canada? Just wondering.

Extreme recommends avoiding all avalanche terrain altogether, natural avalanches certain, and size of slides is large to huge.

There were slides but there was still lots of safe riding this weekend, though many were making poor decisions

Maybe some don't see Considerable as, well, considerable risk unfortunately. Or there may be a good chance they didn't read the bulletin altogether
