Hello forum! I tried doing a search of my problem but have been unsuccessful. The machine (King Quad 700) runs perfect when it is cold. It is when it gets warmed up the gremlins start! The problems I have when it has warmed:
  • Push the 4x4 button and the machine dies (If I do it while driving with throttle it will continue to run)
  • Activate the dif lock (If I do this when I am slowly moving, it really chugs the engine back but comes back to life)
  • Sometimes if driving slow it dies; suspect maybe the fan kicks in?
  • If I hit the winch button it DOES NOT stall out, find this one weird.
*the machine always starts up again after it dies*

This is what I have previously done to the machine:
  • Regulator mod
  • New battery last year
  • New spark plug
  • Tore the whole machine apart and cleaned every connection and dielectric grease.

Last year after I did the tear down it ran flawless(the previous year it was acting up too.) It sat for the winter now the gremlin is back(Had it previous before the tear down) I have not checked for codes yet but thought I would post this to see if anyone else has seen this. I still have the original ECM but I doubt that could be it. Like I said, only when warm.

Any guidance will be appreciated? I really like the machine, owned it since 2007, just need to get this annoyance fixed. I use it daily for work now and don't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere now!

How would a bad battery cause this only when the machine is warmed up?

You have a bad connection on the machine side,.. your winch is connected directly to battery. Sounds like a bad ground or positive supply connection, you are pulling too many amps and you dropping running voltage.

Check voltage at off and idle,.. should be about 12.5v off and 14v running

Voltage drops off too much and fuel injectors shut off, bad cell in battery will do this

Get it hot and jumper cable a extra battery or booster pack and test to confirm this
