I have a 2006 Honda Rancher At 400 and would like to know where the ECU is located. While riding last weekend I sort of road off into a creek and submerged my ATV. I have tried to reset the computer and have cleaned all the connectors and am still having the problem of not being able to get the machine moving. It runs fine but won't move.

Thanks,
Sir Rott

Hi:
I am new here and was searching for some help on info on my honda atv. and decided to join as there looks like good info on here. I am trying to locate the clutch adjuster on a 2006 honda trx400fa/fga. Everyone points out that it is in the front block. I simply cannot find it there. I have my whhels off and skid plate but can find it nowhere. I am wondering if these machines don't have one.

I have a Honda TRX 400 FGA with both ESP and Auto. It seems to get stuck in a gear and won't get out, then won't shift, and if you go to reverse it acts like it's in high gear with no power. Do the hondamatic transmission have oil in them? If you turn it off and back on a few times it seems to stop doing it and then it work great for a bit. I also noticed tonight everything around the engine seems to be a lot hotter than usual it smelt a bit funny too when parked back in the garage. Any suggestions before I call honda?

i have the same problem and i'm looking for any help i can get. when i start my atv, the digital ch!t indicator disappears the flashes 5 times with the esp light up with it. i can drive but it doesn't shift gears and it doesn't want to go in reverse. it just sputters and hardly moves. please PLEASE help me, hehe

My 2004 Honda 400 with 1252km is having the same problem. Have you had any luck finding/fixing the problem?

Double K

I went to lighter oil and it worked a little better but did not solve the problem. I use it in ES unless i am on a good trail. I have 5500 KM on it now.

Hi, I was wondering if somebody could help me with a problem that I have for my ATV. I have a Honda 400 Foreman 4X4 Auto/Manual and I noticed that there was a lot of strain on the bike when I last drove it, so I stopped and turned her off and then tried turning her back on, when I noticed that the ESP was blinking 5 times. I read on a site that many people had this problem and they replaced the angle sensor and the problem has been fixed, so I bought a new angle sensor and replaced it...but now, it seems like the problem has gotten worse, and now the ESP light is blinking 6 times! Any ideas of what the problem might be? Please message me back! :)

Hi -
I haven't posted before - but have read through the problems with ESP shifting. I have the same problem with my TRX400FA FourTrax - it seems to get stuck in about 4th gear and can't shift out of it. I tried a few things...but then found that the Mitsuba gear shift motor was only working intermittently. I confirmed that adequate power was running to it consistently, so took it off and took it apart and cleaned the inside and the brushes...when I put it back together I had the same problem - but if I tapped it gently when trying to shift, it worked again, making me thing that one of the wires may be loose/faulty. I am trying to find a replacement motor - can anyone suggest a good place to get one? Has anyone tried replacing this and has it solved any issues? I bought the ATV second hand and the wiring has been tampered with...the shift indicator doesn't work, but the speedo etc is all fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks - JJ

Just had mine repaired/new shifting motor/$700.00/ exactly the same problem and symptoms, what went wrong with the motor was the little spring that pushed the brushes to the armature broke, worth about 50 cents, I would definitely pull the shifting motor located on the upper front left side and check, could save you a bundle.

I have 04 rancher auto-esp it has sat since 2014 I recently changed the battery. Today I tried to move it, but it wouldn’t go into gear. But it ended up feeling like it did, but it would only ever so slightly just nudge a tiniest bit not even a and inch maybe. The indicator on the instrument panel shows - - not D or 1 when I shift back to nertual I have pass N and almost go into R for the green N to illuminate. D and R do not display. I’m at a loss. Any help would be greatly helpful.
