I tightened the auto tentioner a few clicks past where it was to snug my very loose chain up a bit. Will this cause any problems? No more clunks when shifting from foward to reverse.

If I remember correctly from the service manual you are supposed to set it to the 5th or 6th cog and then let it adjust from there.

I have gone a couple past that just to make sure it is set snug like.

Anything more I would be think chain and or gear might be wearing?

Thats what I thought as well but with it in the orginal position the chain was really loose . I thought that could cause more problems.

Set it where your comfortable with the tension, it will be fine.

Thought I would jump in on this thread instead of starting new.

Just took my chaincase apart to change oil and inspect gears/chain etc. Last year when I did it I put the auto tensioner back to how it was when I took it apart, which IIRC was around the 4th notch from the top. It's now sitting at the 6th and I've realized that my chain has so much play it'd been eating away at a protrusion inside the cover. Will attach picture shortly. My oil was looking quite milky/silver so the shavings have probably attributed to this. The gears and chain look ok, but would a guy be wise to replace just in case? Sled has just over 1000miles all together.

I never liked the auto tensioner. Seemed to cause more issues than work as it was supposed to. Got rid of it and put in something like this. Back to manual and a roller system. No more issues! Few aftermarket companies make their version of it.

Can't remember off the top of my head. Maybe OSP. Might have a receipt in the garage. I'll look later. Shop some of the aftermarkets (STM, Bikeman, Speedwerx, OSP) as several seem to have their versions of a manual tensioner.

I believe there is also now an OEM version too.

What brand of tensioner is that? I like how it has a roller ass opposed to a slider pad.

Arctic Cat has a kit, think it’s originally from a race sled. Your parts guy will know what it is, pretty common upgrade.

The OEM parts come from a four stroke or the race sled, the difference being the race sled still use a pad with manual adjustment and the 4S uses a roller.
