I finally got my new to me M8 on the snow and it ran great most of the day until it started running on one cylinder I THINK..... sled only has 1000 miles on it
It had lower power for sure. And would sputter and after a few miles on the trail it would even out and go like a raped ape again. It has an MBRP Can on it for now I will be pulling it off as it is brutally loud. Have heard of problems with some cans. Looking at a SLP trail can.
I don’t know these sleds or the engine at all. I do know 4 plugs and 4 ign. coils. If one coil was going could it run as
Described on 3 coils. ?

Anything else I should be looking at ? I can get 4 used coils locally for under $100.00. Or should I just buy 4 new ones ??
I don’t like doing swap tronics to find the problem.
Can a dealer put a digital
Wrench on these sleds to pull a code and diagnose the issue ?
Any help is appreciated. Love the sled so far just have to get this figured out.
Cheers !

But before you check reeds check the wiring plug to the ECM. A little corrosion in there can cause all kinds of weird problems. Chased other problems for a week on my nephews sled a while back and found this was the problem. 2 minute fix and simple to check.

Thanks guys. This is a weird one for sure.
I have never had reeds go. And don’t know what type of symptoms broken or cracked ones will produce. I would assume a constant poor running condition. Not intermittently
But I had it into the dealer and they couldn’t pull any codes. They did see the EGT sensor was showing 120 degrees at start up cold so they replaced that. They also said it shows an ECM update bulletin is required as this sled never went back to the dealer after it was sold. Of course they couldn’t do it because of some internal. IT Compatibility issues with their computer. Had it out today for a rip and It did the same thing again but didn’t last as long as before. I also noticed it idles. really low at around 1400 rpm. So maybe the ECM reflash will cure my issues but I will take apart all connections clean and use dielectric grease. I will start with the ECM as noted above.
Thanks again and will post up when I figure it out

UPDATE
Dealer finally was able to complete
The reflash and I asked them to have a look at the reeds and sure as hell 2 sets were cracked and broken. I have to assume this is what was causing the low idle, and also explains the dead spot or what felt like it was running on one.

I will
Confirm this when I get it out next

I think/hope you have a fix! Intermittent troubles are the most frustrating of issues that will leave me not sleeping at night while thinking what the issue could be.

Well here’s the proof. 2 chipped and 2 badly broken. Very surprising At only 1000 miles. I put stock ones back in as they are cheap but has anyone switched to a
V force style reed and had better life ?

I had a 2010 that I put boyesons in at 800 miles. Stockers I removed started to chip, ran the Boyeson reeds for many miles before I sold the sled. Buddy of mine had a 11 that ate the reeds just a few months after owning it.

Sounds like the stock are absolutely garbage. I will switch to boysen or V force the next go around. My Polaris has 6000 k on original reeds. Very weird for sure
