Can't seem to get a clean burn from my 2009 M8. The oil pump is right on the marks. I've replaced the reeds, cleaned the power valves, changed the plugs, use only AC injection oil, premium or reg. fuel makes no dif. The engine has a rough idle and doesn't have a smooth overall sound and does not have a crisp throttle response. The spark plugs are totally black and oily and I'm surprised they don't foul. There is an oily dark film on the belly pan at the exhaust outlet. It starts fine and has never broken down on me. In fact, it's damn relialble. I replaced my 2004 700 sabrecat with this sled and I'm not really impressed with the overall performance. ANY THOUGHTS???

The 800 was not a lot more powerful if any than the 700 it replaced, at least until 2010 big improvement. They were reliable as they come though. The oil pumps did stick some times, make sure the cable is not binding any where and snaps back to idle when the throttle is released, do this multiple times. I have owned a lot of Cats and my buddies also and seriously don't remember changing out a spark plug ever. When you replaced your reeds did you make sure they were seated properly and sealed all the way around ? Don't use premium gas its is not helping, these engines were historically rich but your's seems excessive. Things to check fuel pressure, injectors stuck, (maybe run some sea foam through) make sure all 4 coils are firing, (they will run on 2) good fuel (busy station no ethanol), proper heat range of spark plugs. Is everything else on the machine working right, hand warmers lighting gauges etc ? Another member did ask if compression is good if you don't have a tester your thumb will work, something you need to verify? If you end up changing pistons i have been told the 2010 piston is a nice upgrade on the 07-09 engines, just an fyi as i don't think you have piston issues.
