The background.....

Was out riding with the kids and it was running fine, started to idle high, then went back to normal, then 1/2 hour later it just quit, no spark....
Checked the ignition switch, throttle position, and kill switch.....
checked all the grounds, looked for loose, broken or rubbed wires....

Back at the shop, a
s we own two 2007 M8's I swapped the ECU's and it started first pull,

The questions:

1) anyone have one they want to sell?

2) what would cause it to go....

Did you put the possibly bad ECU in the other sled and have the same problem?

No I didn't...think of that...

Had someone mention that the high idle situation "might" have been enough to send the ECU into protection mode, and it may just need resetting !!!! Sounds plausible...

Appartly the only way to clear codes and reset is at a dealer, they only want 1/2 hour....might be worth it, but liking the idea that you might have one...

Well the ECU is dead, the Mechanic that vdid was work was good about it and how he hanndled it, but the service writer, well he should be dam glad the wife went to pick up the sled, he was an uniformed ignorent little prick, came out and said that I broke it taking the conector of the ECU....

But.....Aggresivezebra aka Bryce, saved the day and has sold us a new ECU at a great price to help us and to clear out some older inventory....Thank you so much ....

FYI.....the retail price at shop 1 was $4,500, retail every where else I called was $3100 and change....just a little different....

They've lost my buisness....

Are you saying the price for an ECU is between $3,100.00 and $4,500.00?

nope the regular retail is 3100 dollars at all shops, the one shop seen a guy that needed it so tried to charge 4500 for it. probably hoping he wouldn't do his research and just say yes and go with it.

Yes, I have Quotes from three dealerships, two were $3,100 but the third shop was $4,500 ....I was not impressed.....

I am a pretty loyal shopper, but also try to shop close to home if possible, not no more looks like I have to travel into Edmonton, to find a shop that shows some integrity....

Re the price, I was told they only made that ECU for a few years, and haven't used it since 2009, so in order to still get some Arctic cats order is for a small quantity, so the price goes up until at some point stop supply....

Thanks again Aggresivezebra....

Wow. Their expensive. For that price it makes a guy want to pick a used one up when they show up on eBay or Kijiji. I saw a couple on Kijiji last week but don's recall the price or the models they were for. Ouch!

OK so popped in a New ECU....( thanks to Aggesivezebra )...
Sled fired up first pull, let it warm up, took it for a short blast around the farm....everything was working.....was idling at about 1700 rpm.

Last Saturday, we had a bunch of people over, took everyone for a sleigh ride, then fired up the four sleds, hooked a toboggan up and went out back to our big hill....
A bunch took turns riding the sleds, we tobogganed with the kids up and down the hill, went back to the house, sled with the new ECU ran great...

They all got parked outside until all the vehicles left, about 11:00 pm, I fired them all up, to put them away....and now the sled with the new ECU is idling at 3000 rpm???
Let it warm up, then drove it into the shed....still idling at 3000 rpm.
This is where this thing started, about an hour into a ride, it all of a sudden started idling to high, see the start of the thread for the rest...

What would cause it to idle that high ???

have you checked for blockage in the baremetric pressure tube? basically the "fuel line" that connects to the ECU?
