Loosing my mind. Found some coolant this fall on my trailer floor. Leak was the water pump on my M1000. Pulled engine replaced all the seals put it back together still freaking leaking. Has to be ceramic seal. Only loosing coolant steady drip was fine when I first fired it up after repair ran 10-15 minutes while I bleed coolant and oil pump. Let it sit and leaks when sitting and running. Shaft was good some minor coolant pitting but not anywhere near seal surfaces. Could really use some guidance.

You did not change the ceramic mechanical seal?

Impossible to put them in backwards. Ran it for 10-15 was fine. Let it sit6 days now leaks steady and no one has one anywhere. Seen the videos have the manual. Done to spec. Leaks worse than before.

Theres only two places it could leak from. Either from the impeller ceramic seal, or the mechanical seal. It is possible the mechanical seal had a defect in it.

Youre gonna have to take it out, Before you rip it out and wreck it, see if you can easily pull the spring and pull it away from the cup. They’re glued in, if it comes out super easy, it was a bad seal. If it doesn’t come out easily get a pair of pliers and grab it and rip it out, inspect the seal bellow if you can remove it without wrecking it.

Side note, when you put it back together, did you put a dab of silicone on the case mating surfaces where the Water pump cover goes that little crack? Or did you take the belly pan off and see it was coming from the weep hole?

I had the lower cover off and it was coming from the weep hole. However I do think I may have found the problem. When I checked the impeller again when I removed it the hub that slides over the shaft was loose from the plastic impeller. I will try and post the little video I took. Not sure where you are on this. Ensure you have the thrust washer installed on the assembly. I Believe it is on the drive side. Look at the exploded schematic to see what and where it is. If this does not go in, the whole assembly gets forced inside by the drive gear and the seal wears out. I found out the hard way after a rebuild.
