Was out with a group (motorcycles) on the weekend to ride up the Cadomin mountain trail. Did it last year and really enjoyed the ride up on the ridge to the lookout, and was looking forward to doing it again this year. This is still designated as a legal trail by alberta SRD (time constrained to June 25- Oct 15) and does show as a designated trail through industrial land. However, when we got to the approach to the Cadomin mountain trail, there were signs that the area was closed to public access by Teck. NO TRESPASSING. Blasting in the area, keep out!! etc etc. No other way around. It also looks like there's a new road crossing the trail with a large diameter pipeline on one side, so even if you were to ignore the signs, you'd never get across the pipeline to get to the trail. What gives?! Did we just quietly lose access to this awesome trail??

Well that explains it, thanks. Too bad there wasn't a notice on the Alberta SRD page for the area that I checked two days before the ride. Also too bad they don't state a "re-opening" time frame for the temporary closure, or a reroute to access Cadomin mountain. I hope it doesn't end up permanent.

Just an update. Cadomin mnt new trail to be built in August of 2017. Says it on the government map and I talked to someone at Teck that confirmed. Teck is also going to build a couple bridges and fix that narrow spot at the beginning of the Mckenzie Gap trail.

Has anyone on here been up riding in the Cadomin area lately? Curious how much rain they had and what the trails are like.

sorry I just got the notification for this message now????

anyway no it's good to go. The gov/AEP were being pricks about the trail making it almost impossible to get trail aproval. The trail was supposed to be done by 2017.
I called in and bitched about it to Teck and they said they were just going to go build the trail on their lease which is totally legal then they wouldn't need permission from the NDP/AEP.

Anyway it's all good to go now and I think the trail closes on Oct 15th.

Pretty sure that tight spot on the Mckenzie gap has caved in so it's not passable.
The gov has the Mckenzie trail shut down right now.

Thanks, we were on the trail in June but got stoped at the tek mine entrance
Told them we’re not going back no matter what especially the shale wall out of the creek (no trees to winch up)
They were kind enough to escort us through but wow what a change, lots of forestry and mining going on
