I have the 14.5 and 11 liter cans.
On planned long days I stack both on the back.
$400 in gas cans.
Worth every in inexplainable penny on sunny days.

Yep thats so true. On epic days buying fuel from someone can be pricey as well.

BC riders just help each other out, we would just loan a guy fuel probably for a few tokes of weed or a Bud Light... Not all about the money for the bro-cals that ride around here.

Only because I carry my extra fuel in my gas tank. 44 litres goes a long way on these modern machines.

Yeah but snochuk goes a long way on these machines too. On a clear day we put in 160ish km out on Renshaw

That's true, almost 70kms of groomed trail makes for high kilometers from the get go at Renshaw.
Groomed is 58 for the round trip.
160 is a "good " day in the spring.
190km is a long day and 215 is my longest at Renshaw about 8 years ago.
South Dore record for me is 220 in one day.
Thsee are the only two places I have ridden that you can do that distance and definatly not powder, pretty set up spring riding.
I don't like beating myself up that much any more and Dore has to much closed to do that legally any more.
Most people that come on those treks were good not going again for a while.
Used to pack about 9 gallons extra each.

I knew it is a long ways in till the cabin not including if they groomed past. I thought it was over 30km, like 32-35 km but i guess not. Still its a long trail ride.
Ya you burn alot of fuel there, the only place i burn more fuel is in the Icefields(Pemberton) and its like half the distance to the play ground LOL.
Finally got to spend two days on the Alpha for a total of about 180km.
Not a lot yet but some good impressions of what it is all about.
Handling on the trail up Chappell:
Needs scratchers down - heats up pretty easy but also cools down really fast
Handles corners like any other mountain sled, a bit tippy. None of the reported hyfax peeling.
Hit 62mph on trail, I swear this thing will hit 75.
Need to adjust shocks - had them to stiff but still very controlled through the evening whoops at speed.
Going to really like the easy shock adjustability once air set.
Smooth clutching engagement for slow take off or hammer it for rip and tear.
Up on top:
Minimal rider input required to lay it over, going to lower pressure to 45 from 55 for next trip, should roll even faster, then find the right clicker position..
On the garage floor felt like a little hang upon the roll over when tack started to come off of the floor but not noticeable at all on the hill.
Smooth transition and easy to over ride the sled...minimal input required, departed from sled a few times from over riding in the morning.
Climb very well and easy to maneuver when climbing-nailed everything coming off of the lake at Chappell.
Lockout feature makes a noticeable difference when used for straight up pulls or side hilling - it works.
Put the aftermarket Cat boards on (very Polarisy looking) - worth every penny for the infill type - did not stomp snow once and always clean.
Motor and clutching:
This was first day and on breakin but still floggd it pretty good.
Again I say super smooth clutching - fast backshifts.
Stayed right at 8250 on pulls, even the longer pulls straight up off lake.
Did not look at rack speed - my bad - must be saving that for next trip.
If this is a 152hp motor it is a very impressive 152hp.
You could not find belt dust with a white Kleenex at the end of the second day, sweet!
Rode it hard but was still OK on gas, will see what like after breakin.
33 liters gas on day one and about 3/4 liter of oil on breakin - maybe a tad less. Should be pretty easy on oil once breakin over.
The Bad:
Only took me two hours to crack the rear snow flap - of the 5 Alphas saw there one other one cracked, took him just as long to break his - could be common issue.
Goggle bag a bit small but OKish.
The Good:
The whole friggen package really was impressive!
Motor, clutch, chassis, shocks and of coarse the rear skid - not a sniff of a complaint, sweet sled.
The Real Question -Did it spank my old Doo and my brothers new 19 Doo:
Sorry but no spankings either way - the performance is surprisingly similar.
The effort to lay sleds over also similar, still think the doo washes out easier on a side hill.
With the lockout on the Alpha seems to dig in and stay there on a side hill. Without the lockout on they are pretty much the same...for two days of riding???
Got back on my old 850 and back on the Alpha several times.
Once breakin is over we will do some side by side pulls.
Have to save something for the next ride. lol

RIDE IT LIKE A RENTAL
Rode my Alpha 2 weekends now and it performed flawlessly. Only bad thing that I've noticed is the track clips will scratch the inside of the slider and come up with small strings of plastic. 2 other alphas on the hill had the same issue (they actually pointed it out to me). Has anyone else had this issue yet or heard about this yet?

167 km on mine only and slider and clips look like new .. no issue at this time.

Thanks for the insight. How do you like the steering of the cat versus the doo?
Ya mines got 400 kms on it already. If you reach under the track to where the track clips are you can feel the inside of the sliders. And mine have small cuts on them from where the track clips were cutting while sidehilling. Hopefully they just cut a bit for the space they need to move around and stop there?
Darts less that a Doo on hardpack and maybe a bit heavier at low speed to steer but that is just shock setting.
Definatly tracks straighter.
Can't remember up top steering as they all steer good in powder.
