2018 mtn cat clutch issues when in reverse?

So was out at goose tower yesterday and had some issues. I had to use reverse a couple times to get turned around in a couple dead ends and it seemed to bind up the primary and made sounds like it was smoking the belt, even stalled the sled once because of it, kinda the same sound my outlander 800 made when it would smoke one of its many belts. The snow was like 4-5' deep and very dense with some very hard layers about halfway down the snow pack. Was it just a snow condition issue or possibly upcoming primary problems? It seemed to work flawless the rest of the time and no issues when using reverse on the hard packed trails. Anyone else had this issue? Ive never encountered that issue before with any other cats but also never had a team clutching setup either

There was a thread on this earlier, I have had the same issue, makes an annoying sound but doesn’t seem to affect anything. Keep meaning to open up the cover and check the the belt when it does it to see if there is anything noticeable.

I opened up the cover while it was doing it and everything looked fine, blipped the throttle a couple times and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, when it happened to you was it in heavy snow?


There was a thread on this earlier, I have had the same issue, makes an annoying sound but doesn’t seem to affect anything. Keep meaning to open up the cover and check the the belt when it does it to see if there is anything noticeable.

yeah happened to mine as well so far zero affects. I took the belt off just after reversing for quite a distance to see if it harmed it at all and no noticeable or measurable differences.

Thanks thats good to know, I figured everything was fine but thought Id ask the masses and see if anyone has ran into that issue

I’m getting the same on my 16 with 18 clutch installed.

When I look at the secondary, now with no deflection adjustment bolt, the belt is almost half out of the plates, not getting full belt contact is what’s causing the slippage noise. I think

It sits about the same as a 850 that has proper deflection set. High is ok it’s got constant tension and starts in the lowest ratio
